The workshop

Dryden Goodwin

Substance misuse doesn’t just present problems for users. Many under-age young people have lost their liberty due to drug-related crimes. They are well aware of how our society's desire for drugs fuels a never-ending cycle of violence, crime, addiction, exploitation and, in some cases, murder. Working out how society should respond is complex. Working out how art can interpret this is even more so.

Dryden Goodwin’s work is defined by a rich dialogue between drawing, photography and film. He has consistently focused on the human figure, questioning the portrait form. His work offers a speculative vision that considers the uncertain processes of looking and representing, both in relation to what is experienced and what is seen. Widely shown nationally and internationally including solo exhibitions at The Photographers' Gallery, London, OCAT Xi’an, China and Hasselblad Foundation, Gothenburg, Sweden. Group exhibitions include Venice Biennale and Tate Modern. Public collections include MOMA, New York, Tate Collection and National Portrait Gallery, London. Large-scale public art projects include Art on the Underground, London.
